The SCART ArtWorks at Agrigento 2025   The official inauguration of Agrigento as the Italian Capital of Culture 2025, attended by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, featured the SCART exhibition “The Beautiful and Useful Side of Waste.” This initiative, organized by the Agrigento 2025 Foundation, the Municipality of Agrigento, the Hera Group, and SEAP, showcases art created from waste materials.

President Mattarella’s Visit

During his visit to the Santa Sofia Chapel, President Mattarella was moved by the artwork Temple of Concordia, crafted from materials such as wood from migrant boats and pieces of plastic. This poignant piece highlights themes of migration, hope, and inclusion.

Culture and Environment

Agrigento’s cultural program for 2025 emphasizes the harmony between humanity and the environment, inspired by the elements of Water, Earth, Air, and Fire. SCART’s philosophy aligns with this vision by promoting recycling and sustainability through art.

About SCART

SCART is the Hera Group’s artistic platform, developed in collaboration with Italian art academies. Over 25 years, it has produced more than 1,000 works from waste materials, turning discarded objects into meaningful art. According to Maurizio Giani, Hera Ambiente’s marketing director:
“SCART was created to make people reflect on waste and its potential. We’ve shown that discarded materials can transform into something beautiful and meaningful.”

  • Temple of Concordia: A painting crafted from wood, fabrics, plastics, and doll fragments, symbolizing migration and hope.
  • Business Wo/men: Statues made from leather scraps, seat belts, and computer components, exploring professional and human dynamics.
  • Community: Transparent figures created from repurposed COVID-19 polycarbonate panels, reflecting social connections.
  • Portrait of President Mattarella: A tribute created with leather scraps, electrical wires, and buttons, showcasing intricate craftsmanship.
