The First Sensory Garden in a UNESCO Site
The magic of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento has just been enhanced with the inauguration of a sensory garden, a true paradise accessible to people of all ages and abilities, , including those with disabilities. A real oasis where you can touch, listen, see, smell, and even taste the surrounding nature. Yes, that’s right, a little Eden strategically located near the famous Temple of Concordia, where the green of the Mediterranean vegetation blends with the ancient history.Every element of the garden has been carefully designed: from the paths that invite a complete sensory exploration to enhance harmony with nature, to the informative panels with raised images and texts in Italian, English, and Braille. An intelligent handrail and a tactile path are there to guide visually impaired visitors on a journey through the beauty of the place.
The area is equipped with three water points and a small water jump, not only to offer a pleasant background sound thanks to the gentle murmur of the water but also to support the local ornithological biodiversity, making the atmosphere even more unique and lively.
Not to be missed is the agora of senses, an area with 25 seats equipped with Braille aids, where visitors can sit and learn more about the hill and the various temples through accessible panels. And for the little explorers or those who want to deepen their knowledge, an educational laboratory dedicated to the care of the garden has been created, as well as several rest areas to enjoy a relaxing break and a drinking water point.
